Barbara Lee (White) Icenhower passed away peacefully on January 20, 2024, surrounded by family in Erie, PA. She was 87.
Barbara was born and raised in a suburb of Pittsburgh, PA. She married John White in the 1950’s and they raised two sons and a daughter in Maryland. In the late 2000’s she married William “Bill” Icenhower and eventually moved to North East, PA in 2020.
Barb loved her family and friends and was generous and supportive. She celebrated her loved ones and worked tirelessly to make birthdays and holidays special. She had a wicked sense of humor and biting wit. Friends and family loved to hear her laugh- especially when they were in on the joke! There was a special place in her heart for her beloved pets, including her two longtime canine companions, her cats, and Tweety Bird.
Barb also loved traveling; especially being on the water and going to the beach. She relished going to the theater, the opera, and ballet. Barb enjoyed a variety of music and would dance in the living room with her kids to the hit music of time. She instilled in her family a devoted love of reading novels and poetry. Barb enjoyed being outdoors and gardening, going out to local restaurants, experiencing fine dining, and sitting down to a good old-fashioned Maryland crab feast. She was famous for hosting annual 4th of July parties with family and friends.
Barb worked in a record store as a teenager and later volunteered with the American Red Cross. Eventually, she retired from a long civil service career in administration at the Army hospital in Fort Meade in Maryland.
Barbara is survived by her brother, two sisters-in-law, three children, son-in-law, daughters-in-law, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to call at the W. Tad Bowers Funeral Home, 92 S. Lake St., North East, PA on Saturday, April 13, 2024, from 10 A.M. until the time of a Celebration of Life service at 11 A.M. Rev. David Kuchta will officiate.
