Doris (Betts) Leary, 82, of North East, PA, peacefully departed from this life on Thursday, February 25, 2021 - reuniting her with loved ones, to rest in eternity with the LORD.
Doris was born on October 15, 1938 in Erie, PA to the late Dellmer Betts (stepmother, Peg Betts) and Jennie (Fisher) Scott (stepfather, Ford Scott).
Doris graduated from North East High School in 1956. She worked for Welch Foods in North East, PA for 22 years. She also drove truck, managed a uniform store in North Carolina, and worked in home healthcare in Florida.
After spreading her wings, she moved back to North East, in 1991, to be with family - her greatest love. She had an exceptional talent for crocheting and knitting. Every blanket, mitten, scarf, or octopus was created with love in every stitch. Holding onto, or wrapping up in, one of her gifts is like getting a warm hug from her loving arms.
Doris lived her life with an open door and a generous heart. She never turned away a person in need and always had coffee to share. Her legacy of unconditional love will live on in her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Ray Betts (wife Ronnie); sister, Faye Raven (husband Walt); sister-in-law, Margaret Betts; brother-in-law, Sheldon Teed; and great-granddaughter, Bella Driscoll.
She is survived by her daughters, Brenda Hickey and Denise Spacht (Marc) both from North East. Her ex-son-in-law, Armand Morin. Grandchildren: Miranda Driscoll (Jeff), Adrienne Jurado (Juan), David Reed (Felicia), Jessica Reed (Justin), Danielle Hickey (Alex). Great-grandchildren: Callie, Clara, Luci, Emi, Layla, Isabella, Lydia, Luca, Vin, Landon, and Raven. Brothers, Danny and James Betts; sisters, Betty Teed and Karen Barber and many beloved nieces and nephews.
There will not be any calling hours or services. The family will hold a private celebration of life at a later date.
The family wants to offer a special thank you to UPMC Hospice for the care and comfort they provided to Doris and her family. Thank you to Bower’s Funeral Home for their compassion and professionalism.
