John E. Mills

John E. Mills, 82, of North East, was called home by his Lord and Savior on Friday, October 8, 2021. He was an active member of Park United Methodist Church, North East which was a true blessing from God to John.

He was born in Erie, PA on March 31, 1939.  He graduated from Strong Vincent High School.  John attended Maryville College in Tennessee, Gannon College, Erie and graduated from Metro State College in Denver, CO.  He was employed by the Electric Materials Co. in North East for many years, retiring in 1994.  John served in the US Air Force for 4 years with the 451st SAC Missile Wing in Denver.  After retirement John enjoyed keeping busy by working as a jailor for the North East Police Department for 13 years. John had been very active in running and cycling in the 1970’s and 80’s, including 2 Ironman Triathlons.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Marie Ruth Mills in 1991 and his second wife, Eileen J. Mills in 2008.  Also, Dads William I. Barnhart and Dale Edward Mills and his mother Madeleine M. Mills Barnhart.

John is survived by his Dear Friend Doreen Johnson of North East and his sister, Beverly Carroll, and her husband David of Erie.  Two daughter’s Joyce and Janet of Westminster, CO, his son, Roger, and his wife Linda of Elko, Nevada.  He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received with all public safety guidelines pertaining to the COVID-19 observed on Friday, October 15, 2021, from 3 PM to 6 PM at the W. Tad Bowers Funeral Home, 92 S. Lake St., North East, and are invited to attend the funeral service on Saturday at 11 A.M. from the Park United Methodist Church, 30 N. Lake St., North East, PA. Pastor Eric Leonard will officiate.  Interment will be in North East Cemetery.
