Peter Howard Obituary

Peter S. Howard, 86, of Findley Lake, NY, peacefully passed away at home on May 26, 2022. He was born May 17, 1936, in Baltimore, MD son of the late Harold F. Howard and Thyra Grey Berns. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at his home in Findley Lake. There, he would often be found sitting at his bar solving the world's problems. He prided himself on his extensive collections. His greatest joys in life were sharing stories, walking his dog, and fishing with good friends.

He was a proud graduate of The Pennsylvania State University with an engineering degree. He worked at Smith Meter Co. and established Howard & Associates Real Estate, building the business as a broker with friends and his son, Steve. Pete was considered to be a ‘jack of all trades’ to many he knew.

He was a life member of the Findley Lake Volunteer Firemen's Association, Zem Zem Shrine Club, and National Rifle Association (NRA). He was a member of the National Ski Patrol, Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, Trouts Unlimited, and S.O.N.S. of Lake Erie. He was awarded the Ramsey Riddle Award at the Chautauqua County Sports Hall of Fame for his 56 years of dedication to the Peek’n Peak Ski Patrol and served 18 years on the President’s Board of Associates at Mercyhurst University.

Pete is survived by his wife Barbara Francis Howard, his children E. Stephen Denny (Ann) of North East, PA, Suzanne Sweeney (Kraig) of Harborcreek, PA, his beloved grandchildren, Stephen Denny (Georgia), Taylor Gushie (Dylan Mercier), Maria Denny, and Boden Gushie. His niece Victoria Howard Weyel (Steve) and nephew Stephen Howard (Nancy).

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved brother Stephen F. Howard, of Flint, MI.

Not only was Pete loved by so many, but he truly loved many. He took those under his wing and thought of them as his own children and grandchildren. Anyone who needed an ear to bend or a hand to hold, the light was always left on. He was a true friend to many, and will be missed in the Findley Lake Community.

A private graveside service will be held at West Mina Cemetery followed by a celebration of life at the Findley Lake Firehall from 1-3 pm on Saturday, June 18 open to those who were in Pete’s life.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Findley Lake Volunteer Firemen's Association, Shriners Hospital, or YMCA Camp Chautauqua Lake Summer Program for Kids.
