Obituary

Thomas Frank Maas, 72, went to Heaven to be with Jesus on Monday, October 31, 2022. “Tom” passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family after a two-year battle with cancer.

Tom was born on May 6, 1950, in Erie, PA, a son of the late Richard and Violet Maas of North East, PA. He graduated from North East High School in 1968, enlisted in the United States Air Force, and served in the Vietnam War. Tom finished his service in 1972 and was a proud American patriot. He proudly worked as an Income Maintenance Caseworker at the Erie County Assistance Office, Department of Human Services, for nine years until he retired.

Tom was inducted into the North East Athletics Hall of Fame in 2018 with his teammates from the North East High School Boys Basketball 1967 District Championship Team. He was known for his infectious sense of humor and laugh, and he could make any situation a funny one. All who knew him would refer to him as a “good man.” Tom was a fun-loving husband, a beloved father, and an even better “papa.”

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his parents-in-law, Roy and Eilene Thomson; his stepson, Rob Hollenbaugh; a sister, Sharon Jagoda; brothers-in-law, Bill Lipnicky, “Fritz” Jagoda and Ken Neckers; also a nephew, Stephen Jagoda. Tom is survived by his wife of 34 years, Carol Ann Maas; daughters, Leah, Lisa (Phil), Heidi (John), and Kayla Maas (Charles); stepdaughters, Keri Hollenbaugh Zahner (Eric) and Melissa Hollenbaugh (Jeremy); 15 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; brothers James (Wilma) and Rick Maas (Ann); sisters Barb Neckers and Diana Lipnicky; brothers-in-law, Bob (Dee), and Terry Thomson (Becky); sister-in-law Mary Ann Boyd and many nieces, nephews, and many great-nieces and nephews.
